Anna O’Keeffe - Publisher, Douglas & McIntyre
Mapping Your Publishing Path

So you have an idea for a book, or a manuscript in hand, what's next?

In this collaborative workshop, participants will discuss opportunities and challenges in the contemporary Canadian publishing landscape, as well as the various steps and stages of a book project from concept to reader.

Participants will be invited to share their publishing goals and, with the input of an experienced publishing professional, work together to create publishing plans, considering decisions like self-publishing vs traditional publishers and critical topics like working with editors and ways to connect with a readership. Feel free to come with a short description of your book idea.

ANNA COMFORT O’KEEFFE has over twenty years of publishing industry experience, including ghost writing, editing, design, acquisitions, grant writing, and management, and currently holds the position of publisher of Douglas & McIntyre, one of Canada's pre-eminent independent publishers. Even though she works on books all day, and sometimes into the night, she still wishes she had more time to read. She lives in Pender Harbour, BC, on the traditional and unceded territory of the shíshálh Nation.
