Festival Update

When I started this festival a few years ago, everyone warned me how hard the events business was, especially on Salt Spring Island. As a marketing director who had produced both large and small events around the world, I felt pretty confident in my event-planning skills, and that I was creating something that would be truly valued here.

But organizing events on a rural island is very challenging (I hate it when the naysayers are right). It's hard to draw people out of their homes for events. It's hard to get the word out, even if your event is in the local paper, local websites and social channels, and postered all over town.

Due to lower than anticipated ticket sales, we've unfortunately had to cancel the Storytellers' Dinner on Friday night. The chefs and I apologize to those who did purchase tickets, we were really looking forward to the plans we had for a magical evening and hope to organize a similar event in the future.

The good news is we will instead host a free happy hour event at the Salty Pear on Friday September 22 from 5-7pm. This event is sponsored by Country Grocer, who has been instrumental in our little festival staying afloat these past few years. If you're curious about the festival, or just want to hang out and chat with awesome people, please come and enjoy some music, snacks and a glass of wine or two. Bring your kids, bring your friends, and take in the beautiful artwork in the gallery (also our venue for workshops the following day).
